PondScape Build Your Own Aeration Kit
Looking for an aeration system for your lake or large pond? You've come to the right place. Simply choose from the options to build your aeration system. Start with the compressor size at the top (in horsepower).
Most aeration systems are made up of main components. The compressor, cabinet, outlets, tubing and diffusers. These kits help you skip the jumping around looking for all the parts and put them all into one easy to build kit.
The first step is figuring what compressor size you need. With this kit builder, choose from 1/4HP, 1/2HP, 3/4HP or 1 HP. (Many more options are available if you need something larger) Not sure which compressor size you need? A good rule of thumb is 1/4HP compressor for every 1/4 acre of pond. This does change slightly for certain depths. For instance, a 1/2 acre pond should use a 1/2HP compressor. The 1HP compressor is a rotary vane compressor with the others being Rocking Piston compressors. Click on the compressors below for detailed information on each.
Next, do you want a cabinet for your compressor to sit in. These compressor are not weather resistant and need to be stored inside a dry housing. If the cabinet is listed, your choice of compressor will fit. These cabinets all have cooling fans inside and some offering a locking mechanism.
Roto-Molded Cabinet - The Roto-Molded Cabinet is designed for compressors up to 1/4HP and are a more economical alternative to the steal cabinets. These cabinets come with a cooling fan already installed. These cabinets do not lock. Cabinet measures 15"W x 25"L x 15"H
Post Mounted Lockable Steel Cabinet - The Lockable Post Mounted Cabinet will fit compressors up to 1/2HP. These cabinets can be put on the ground using the supplied legs or mounted to a 4" x 4" (or similar) post. Included with the cabinet is a cooling fan, mounting bracket, and electrical box. Cabinet measures 11.5"W x 18"L x 11.5"T.
Deluxe Lockable Steel Cabinet - The Deluxe Lockable Steel Cabinet holds all compressors up to 1HP. Cabinet includes 6' cord pre-wired plug and cooling fan. The cabinet measures 16.5"W x 22" L x 19"T.
The next step is to choose the amount of weighted tubing you need. Each roll is 100' in length, so if you need 250' you will need to purchase 300'. Google Earth is a great tool in determining the proper amount of tubing. One of the pictures above show an example of how to determine how much tubing you need. Also, if you need more than 100' for a single diffuser, you will also need a coupler and hose clamps. Each connection will need one coupler and two hose clamps.
Next, choose whether you want a single diffuser or double diffuser.
Your final selection will be how many diffuser you want. Our recommendation is one diffuser per 1/4 acre but this may vary based on shape. Most oval type ponds can use this formula, but irregular ponds may need additional diffusers based on shape.
