Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does the Easy-Clean system work?
A: When the cleaning indicator alerts you, simply pull up on the cleaning handles to squeeze debris from the filter foams—no need to remove them or get your hands dirty. Then attach a hose to the Gardena-style fitting, open the sludge valve, and rinse the filter. The entire cleaning process takes just a few minutes and is much easier than traditional filters.
Q: What's the difference between a gravity filter and a pressure filter?
A: A gravity filter sits above pond level and water returns to the pond by gravity (flowing downhill). This design allows for easy cleaning and maintenance. Pressure filters are sealed units that can be installed below pond level or buried. BioSmart gravity filters are ideal when you can position the filter above the pond, such as next to a waterfall or stream.
Q: Do I need to add a UVC clarifier?
A: While the BioSmart provides excellent mechanical and biological filtration, adding a compatible Vitronic UVC clarifier (sold separately) eliminates green water and controls algae. When paired with the proper pump and UVC, the BioSmart qualifies for OASE's Clear Water Guarantee. For the BioSmart 5000, use the Vitronic 18 UVC. For the BioSmart 10000, use the Vitronic 36 UVC.
