What UV Clarifiers Address
UV clarifiers use UVC light to eliminate free-floating, single-celled algae that cause green water. As water passes through the unit, algae cells clump together and are then captured by the pond's filter.
Green Water Is Different From String Algae
The Oase Vitronic UV Clarifier page states that UV clarifiers eliminate green water but not string or surface algae. Green water and string algae are treated as different issues on OASE's product pages, so a UV clarifier addresses one and not the other.
For string algae—also known as hair algae or stringy algae—the PondScape Pond & Waterfall Pulse Ionizer is intended to help control those forms of algae and is not intended to treat green "pea soup" water. In contrast, UV clarifiers address green water and do not address string or surface algae.
